Idle fees are charges applied when your vehicle remains parked at a charging spot after the charging session or session limit has ended. These fees are set by the site host, not by AmpUp, and policies vary by location.
Why Idle Fees Exist
Idle fees are used to:
- Keep chargers available for other drivers
- Prevent long-term parking at EV charging spots
- Encourage drivers to move their vehicle once charging completes
When Idle Fees Are Applied
You may be charged an idle fee if:
- Your charging session has finished, but the car is still plugged in
- You are parked in a time-restricted charging spot
- The site host has set parking penalties for overstaying
- You remain in the spot after a grace period (varies by location)
Note: Not all AmpUp locations have idle fees, and amounts may differ.
How to Avoid Idle Fees
- Monitor your charging progress in the app
- Move your vehicle shortly after charging completes
- Review the pricing details for the charger before starting your session
- Check for posted signs or rules set by the property
