AmpUp can text you about your charging session instead of making you keep the app open. If you opt in, you get a text when your session starts, a text if the session ends or hits a time limit set by the site owner, and a text with your receipt when the session is closed out.
SMS is opt-in only. You will never receive a text unless you turn the toggle on yourself.
Turning SMS notifications ON
The SMS toggle sits at the top of the Pricing page, in both the mobile app and the web app.
Two conditions must both be true before any text is sent:
- The SMS toggle is on.
- Your phone number is verified on your account.
If the toggle is on but the number was never verified, no texts go out. Verifying the number is a one-time step in the app.
When you opt in, you get a confirmation text:
You're signed up for AmpUp SMS notifications! You'll receive texts when your charging session starts, ends, and when your receipt is ready. Reply STOP to opt out anytime.
Turning SMS notifications OFF
Two ways, both work to turn off SMS notifications after activating the feature:
- Switch the toggle off on the Pricing page.
- Reply STOP to any AmpUp text. This turns off SMS for that phone number.
There is no charge for opting out. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply to messages you receive.
What text messages you will receive as a driver
Session started. Sent when charging begins. Includes a link to track the session in progress.
Your charging session has started! Please move your vehicle once charging is complete. Track your charging session here: [link]
Idle fee warning. Sent when the session has ended and idle fees are about to start accruing. Shows the deadline to unplug and the hourly rate the site owner has set.
Charging session has ended! Idle Fee warning: Please unplug your vehicle before 3:30 PM to avoid $4.00 per hour idle fees set by owner.
Session limit reached. Sent when the session hits the maximum duration the site owner configured. If the site charges idle fees, the message includes the unplug deadline and rate. If it does not, the message just asks you to unplug so the port frees up.
Charging session limit reached! Your charging session has reached the 5 hour limit set by owner. To ensure all drivers have access, please unplug and move your vehicle at this time.
Receipt. Sent once the session is fully closed out, the charger is unplugged, and payment has been processed. Includes a link to the receipt.
Charging complete! Thank you for charging with AmpUp. View your receipt here: [link]
Other notifications. If the site's community manager has configured additional driver notifications, those can also come through by SMS after the start session message.
Timing you should expect
The receipt text does not arrive the moment charging stops. Payment processing waits until the connector is physically unplugged, so the receipt text follows the unplug, not the end of energy delivery.
The idle fee text is sent at the point idle fees actually begin costing money, not at the moment charging is completed.
Link behavior
Links in these texts are built to open in the AmpUp mobile app when it is installed.
