Why this change is happening
We’ve heard consistent feedback from drivers that pricing was hard to understand because the networking fee appeared as a separate line item on receipts and in the app. Drivers often felt that the final cost was higher than expected, which is discouraging to drivers to use their stations repeatedly.
To improve transparency AmpUp is adding the networking fee into the base price for drivers to see. This ensures that the prices displayed upfront matches closer to what drivers actually pay at the end of the charging session.
What’s changing for site hosts
In Community Manager (CM), you’ll now see a new Driver Facing Fee section in your price settings found at Location Settings > Access Groups. This section automatically shows you the final driver-facing price, including networking fees, so you know exactly what drivers will see.
- E.g. if you enter $0.30/kWh as your base rate, the new Driver Facing Fee section will display $0.33/kWh with the 9% network fee added.
- You can round up or down in the Driver Facing Fee section for driver-friendly pricing. E.g. changing $0.22 to $0.20 per kWh in Driver Facing Fee will update the By Energy fee to $0.183.
- If your location setting is configured so that the site host pays the networking and processing fees, then the Driver Facing Fee will match your base rate (no service fee added).
What’s changing for drivers
- Simpler, all-inclusive pricing - Drivers will now see a combined per-kWh (energy) or per-hour (time) price that already includes the networking fee.
- No more surprises - Pricing in the mobile app, web app, and receipts will clearly state that the rate shown includes all service fees.
- Taxes remain itemized – Sales tax will still be displayed separately as required by law.
